October 1: Future Event Horse
Future Event Horse Classes will be held in conjunction with the Irish Draught Horse Society of North America's 2009 Annual Horse Show. These classes are scheduled to start at 4:00pm.The judges will be Mr. Oliver Fleming, Mr. John Walsh, and Ms. Barbara Batterton. The cost of FEH classes is $20.00 for IDHSNA Members and $45.00  for non-members, there is an additional $10.00 starting fee. All horses entered in the FEH Series classes will need to be registered with the USEA, however, the the owners/handlers do not need to be members of USEA. Please note that these classes are qualifiers for the USEA FEH East Coast Championships which are scheduled to be held on October 30, 2009 at the Virginia Horse Center.

October 1-4: Irish Draught Horse Society of North America
This show is sponsored by the IDHS(NA). It is the annual show for Irish Draught and Irish Draught Sport Horses from North America to compete in Hunters, Jumpers, Dressage, Combined Training, Breeding and USEA sponsored Future Event Horse classes. It is an unique opportunity to view and purchase top quality young stock and proven performance horses.

October 9-11:  Central Virginia Paint Horse Club Color Classic & Fall Futurity
This multi-day paint horse show, hosted by the Central Virginia Paint Horse Club, features a full line up of halter and performance classes plus breeders and open futurity classes.

October 10-11:  House Mountain Horse Show
Two-day regional schooling horse show for hunter and jumper riders.

October 10-11:  Therapeutic Riding Association of Virginia Fall Horse Show
This annual show for riders with disabilities will feature a variety of classes including dressage, equitation, obstacle, pole bending, costume and United Professional Horseman’s Association classes.

October 13: Old Time Music Jam - LIVE from the Work Horse Cafe
Mountain music jam session honoring our mountain heritage. Musicians welcome to play and audience encouraged to dance and sing along. Concessions available. Sessions held the 2nd Tuesday of each month starting at 6pm.

October 16-17: Old Dominion Futurity Benefit Horse Show
Show benefiting the Old Dominion Futurity will feature 3-gaited, 5-gaited, fine harness, park, pleasure prospect, equitation, Academy, children’s, fun classes and more.

October 16-18:  Virginia Presidential New World Show VI PFHA Event
USEF all Paso Fino horse show featuring a full schedule of classes with double points; demos and clinics. Additional events include a trail ride and a Paso Fino horse sale and stallion breeding sale.

October 17:  Mounted Map and Orienteering Clinic
Spend the afternoon riding your horse on the VHC trails and learning how to navigate with a map and compass. Instructor: Olin Bare, Lexington, VA. Compass and watch required.

October 16-18: Virginia Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association Alpaca Expo

4th annual VAOBA Alpaca Expo will feature approximately 800 alpacas in halter classes. We anticipate greatly increased performance classes with participation by the many newly formed 4-H alpaca clubs in Virginia and neighboring states.
