August 11: Old Time Music Jam — LIVE from the Work Horse Cafe
Mountain music jam session honoring our mountain heritage. Musicians welcome to play and audience encouraged to dance and sing along. Concessions available. Sessions held the 2nd Tuesday of each month starting at 6pm.

August 13 – 16: National Barrel Horse Association Colonial National
One of eight national shows that lead to the NBHA World Championships, the Colonial National attracts more than 1,000 entries from twenty states to compete for $100,000 in cash and prizes.

Paint your own Stablemate model horse. A $5.00 registration fee applies.

August 19 - 23: MSQHA Black Eyed Susan Circuit
The 2009 Maryland State Quarter Horse Association presents the "Black Eyed Susan Circuit" Futurity and Show. August 19th will offer an AQHA All Novice Show followed by two AQHA approved split/combined horse shows over four days on August 20 - 23. This show is also an NSBA dual approved show. In addition to the NSBA classes, the show will offer several Stakes Classes along with the Maryland Breeders Incentive Program classes. There will be numerous vendors with horse related gifts and supplies. There will also be an exhibitor's party on Friday evening with a great menu and music. Whether you are an exhibitor, spectator or just a party-goer, you will have the opportunity to experience the versatility of the American Quarter Horse in a beautiful horse show setting in the Shenandoah Mountains.

The Virginia Starter Horse Trials offers a cross-country schooling day on Saturday and Starter Horse Trials on Sunday in which riders compete in dressage, cross-country jumping, and show jumping.
