Your Virginia Horse Center

THANK YOU for choosing the Virginia Horse Center Foundation for your event.  We have compiled the following user guide to make your trip as safe and enjoyable as possible.

Specific information for your event can be found by visiting the calendar of events page or by contacting event management if not owned by the VHCF.

Exhibitors Guide


  • Admission to most events is free and open to the public. Please check the specific event on our calendar for details.

Bedding & Hay

  • All stalls must have at least 1 bag of shavings or a bale of straw. Sawdust is prohibited.
  • Shavings and hay may be purchased at the Stable Office/Welcome Center.


  • Exhibitors can camp on-site with convenient water and electrical hook-ups at the northeastern and southwestern corners of the VHCF.  Camping with hook-ups is $40 plus tax per night.  Tent and generator camping is $25 plus tax per week. Reservations can be made  online. Call 540-464-2966 with questions.
  • Other camping facilities in the area include: Lee-Hi Travel Plaza, Glen Maury Park, Natural Bridge Campground, and Natural Bridge KOA.


  • Dogs are allowed outdoors at the VHCF so long as they are on a leash or suitably housed in a stall.  Due to health laws, dogs are not allowed in the Anderson Coliseum food service areas unless crated, for identifiable service purposes, or for dog-related events.  Dogs are allowed in the East Complex if leashed, for identifiable service purposes, or for dog-related events.
  • Any loose animals may incur a $100 fine.
  • Please clean up after your pets!
  • Please DO NOT leave your animals in your vehicle.  Security will notify authorities if they view the animal is in danger.

Early Arrival & Layover

  • Each show has a designated move-in day.  If you choose to move in prior to the event's designated day, there is a $40 fee per horse.  If you choose to stable overnight after the close of your show, there is a $10 fee per horse.  All special arrangements must go through the Stable Office/Welcome Center. Golf Carts

  • Golf Carts are provided by Virginia Golf Cars of Harrisonburg, VA and are available for rental on-site at the Stable Office/Welcome Center for $65 per day.  You can make reservations in person or by calling 540-464-2966.

Horse Requirements

  • A negative Coggins must be provided to the Stable Office/Welcome Center for every horse brought to the VHCF per state law.
  • Horses coming from out of state are required to have a health certificate per federal law.
  • No lungeing is permitted in the Anderson Coliseum, the East Complex, Wiley Arena, Northern Arena, or B Ring.
  • Horses are not allowed to be trailered overnight or tied out overnight.
  • A Horse Health Declaration must be submitted for each horse visiting the property, for each event. Please click here to download the form.

Parking & Traffic

  • All trailers must check-in with the Stable Office/Welcome Center upon arrival.
  • Visitors should park in the lot directly across from the Anderson Coliseum which is to the right upon entering the facility.
  • The speed limit is 10 mph on-site.  All drivers must be 16 years-of age and have a valid driver’s license. This is also applicable to golf-carts, mo-peds, and scooters.
  • ATVs are not permitted at the VHCF.
  • Vehicles should ALWAYS yield to horses and other animals.
  • Horses may not be ponied to any moving vehicle.
  • The VHCF reserves the right to ticket vehicles parked in no parking zones and revoke small motorized vehicle use if the privilege is abused.


  • The VHCF has eight barns with 745 permanent stalls. With temporary stabling, we can accommodate 1,200 horses.
  • Stalls are 12 feet by 10 feet and have 7 feet by 10 inch thick walls. Stall floors are clay with rock dust layered on top.
  • One horse occupancy per stall.

Stall Cleaning

  • Please dispose of bedding and manure in the designated areas.  No trash or sharps may be disposed of in manure pits or stalls.  Dispose of sharps in the red boxes provided in each barn.
  • All stalls will be cleaned by the VHCF after an event unless otherwise notified (if you are staying on for a second event).


  • No firearms or fireworks are permitted.
  • N0 smoking inside the Anderson Coliseum, Ault Pavilion, East Complex, or inside barns according to Virginia state law.
  • Any loss, theft, or accident should be reported immediately to the Security Office at the front of the facility.  Lost & found is located at the Security Office.
