Glenn PettyWelcome to the Virginia Horse Center Foundation in beautiful Lexington, Virginia!

Whether you are visiting our site as a competitor in one or more of our many horse shows, family member or friend of one of our competitors, a community member of the Rockbridge county area, a business person interested in sponsorship or advertising opportunities with our shows and our facility, or an interested tourist, we want to ensure you get all the information you need. To those ends, we have developed our website to make sure that all the Virginia Horse Center information is readily accessible to you.
I joined the Virginia Horse Center in March of this year as a consultant and am proud to serve as Interim Executive Director starting in May following Katherine Truitt’s retirement.   John Nicholson, former Director of the Kentucky Horse Park, was welcomed in May to our organization as a consultant, and we are very excited about having an individual with this kind of experience in our midst.   Together with John and a revitalized Board led by Ernie Oare, we are all working together to get the Horse Center back to running smoothly and being the world class equestrian facility it has the potential to be.
Our facility was built 29 years ago with numerous additions and improvements made along the way.   Our 501c3 status is important as it sets us apart from a number of other, similar facilities.   Many of these are the recipients of state funding, while others are privately owned and operate for profit.   Our objective is to hold shows for competitors of all ages and experience, and hence our mission to serve as a world-class competitive venue across a wide variety of breeds and disciplines.   The breeds include, but are not limited to, Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds, Friesians, Saddlebreds and Quarterhorses, competing in disciplines such as Hunter/Jumper, Reining, Dressage, Three-Day Eventing, Pony Club and Barrel Racing.    In addition we are the proud hosts of a number of other events including the Rockbridge County Fair, the Rockbridge Farmer’s Market and several dog agility trials, while also hosting a large number of other local community events and meetings.
All successful organizations are in a continuous process of evolution.  I am very excited about being a part of this process and about the opportunities the future holds for the Virginia Horse Center.
